Curling eyelashes makes your eyes look wider and allows for easier mascara application. Metal curlers are better than plastic because it grips the lashes better.

I’ve tried the heated kind such as Conair Heated Eyelash Curler but I still go back to my tried and tested metal eyelash curler. Shu Uemura’s is the best but before that I was using Revlon and Tweezerman.

A recent discovery is Fanny Serrano’s Slim Eyelash Curler. This 2009 Cosmo Beauty Award winner is tops on my list because of its precise grip especially on the small lashes around the inner and outer corner of the eyes. You get the perfect curl each time because you are curling sections of yourlashes; you don’t miss out the short ones.

How to use an eyelash curler:

- Use eyelash curler before applying mascara. Never curl lashes after you apply mascara because as the mascara dries, lashes can stick to the curler and be torn from the roots.

- Open the curler, clamp lashes as close to the base as possible and hold for 10 seconds. Don’t clamp to tight so as not to “bend” or “crease” the lashes (the idea is to “curl”, not bend). Instead, squeeze the curler and walk them out toward the end of the lashes, squeezing with each step.

- Replace eyelash curlers after six to nine months; the curling pads should be replaced after 2 months.
