Applying foundation that does not look flat

Applying foundation can be very tricky since it’s not just covering the flaws, allowing for a perfect canvass when you apply blush and eyeshadow. The most important thing to remember is that the makeup should enhance your beauty by playing up your best features and hiding the flaws. One concern of mine is that whenever I put on foundation, my face tends to look flat. Yet, when I have it professionally done, it looks natural and there are shadows in the right places.

When I have a big part in the wedding, I usually have my makeup done at the salon because in my past experience, my own efforts at makeup application make my face look flat in photos. That was long before I learned to use contour and sculpting kits and the art of blending. A wide face can look slimmer when you know how to apply contouring makeup. This usually takes practice.

Make Up For Ever’s sculpting kit features a duo of complementary powders, light and dark, that contours and sculpts the face structure in a natural, flattering way. There are four combination shades available: #1 light pink, #2 neutral, #3 gold, and #4 dark. The powder is micronized and is very easy to apply.  Apply the dark shade on the hollows of the cheeks, temples and jaw line and nose line. The light shade you should use on the prominent areas of the face. Blend well to get a natural finish. For eyeshadow, use the light shade on the entire eye area and then the darker shade on the crease.

For someone who is not used to applying foundation and makeup,it is best to seek help from makeup artists when you shop for products right at the beauty counter. Of course, you get salestalked into buying their products but  you get valuable tips as well. These salespeople/makeup artists  accept bookings for weddings and other events. Some moonlight as makeup artists for magazines. Ask about their the projects/shoots they have been involved with. That alone will guarantee that they are good at that they do. Get their business cards or contact numbers in case one day you need their services.

If you want know what’s the best shade of foundation for you, after applying foundation and a little make up on your face, get your camera and get some shots of you. Choose the shot with shade/s that looks natural on the picture and say goodbye to the ‘mask’ face effect of foundations.
